Ready for Easter

April 10, 2020 by Gregg DeMey

This has been an unsettling Holy Week. So many of the treasured traditions that make this week so special have not been possible in the same way while we practice social distancing. My guess is that many of you feel this same loss. It’s sad to let go of favorite worship experiences and familiar rhythms.

If ever we needed a jubilant Easter celebration, it’s now! While Easter 2020 will surely be touched and colored by the same dynamics that affect all at present, the reality of God’s great love and the power of Jesus’ resurrection are as solid and sure as ever.

To help us embrace these bedrock spiritual realities, we’ll be worshipping God together via LiveStream at 10 a.m. on Easter Sunday morning. You can prepare in two ways:

  • Be ready to make some noise both with your voice (“He is Risen! He is Risen, indeed!”) and with whatever joyful noise makers you might have lying around the house.
  • Be ready with some bread (or crackers etc…) and crimson drink (grape juice etc…) to celebrate the reality that Jesus’ body and blood are living today. Often our communion celebrations look back to what Jesus accomplished on the cross. Occasionally, but especially on Easter, it is fitting to have a forward looking communion that anticipates the great wedding feast of the Lamb in the Kingdom of God. Given the current state of the world, gathering around Jesus’ table where everything has been healed and set right sounds better than ever.

Our Easter 2020 worship service will be anchored by Luke 24. I invite you to read this passage early on Easter Sunday morning prior to worship as well as meditating on these words from Revelation 19:9:

Then the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!" And he added, “These are the true words of God."

May the Blessings of Easter surround and hold you!

Pastor Gregg
